Green laser pen/pointer
This is my new green laser pointer. Its around 8-15mW output power. Yes you unusually can see the beam when its murky :-)

Now this article is what I like to see - some sensibility in the mainstream media. Well done ABC!
No woman should possess any particularly formidable laser without adequate provisions for refuge, of course - but there are already laws in make good regarding licensing and laser security.
My only real concern is that the law won't outfit adequate provision for mortal private citizens to own green laser pointers with a thinking power output, say 10mW, for astronomy.
Also, it's not like they assembly these things in Australia - so if they're banned from importation and seized by customs, then that's comparable to a complete ban.
Yes, by all means, you've got to account for the rattle-brained people - but I don't like eroding people's laic liberties to do it.
My other chief business is that the primary legitimate reason for personal individuals to own moderately potent laser pointers is to use them for astronomy - for pointing, radio telescope sighting, alignment and to conceive virtual stars - and unmistakably, that involves shining the laser bar up into the night sky! My chief attention is that ignorant citizens, and overzealous, unlettered police for that matter, will procure after those who are doing that, and try and charge them, and/or seize the laser.
There seems to be a angelic deal of public unawareness out there about this sort of thing - laser pointers seem to be demonised a lot, and people overlook that they're legitimately useful. I recall the exact same thing started occasion about 10 years ago, when red 1 mW - 5 mW laser pointers started becoming very commonplace.
I hostile, most people - and most news articles - don't seem to even detect the distinction between a laser and a laser pointer, or that lasers have other power levels, and some are more menacing than others - if fair use is to be protected, and people are to be knowledgeable of...
